SiliconANGLE was founded by visionaries John Furrier (Fortune Magazine and founder of CrowdChat) and David Vellante (Founder of Wikibon and ITCentrix) to create a new type of information company that can create and share information in real time using the latest technologies and data.
SiliconANGLE had great tools. They had a big user base and they had the content. But while working with IBMGO, they were getting visitors who would only visit once and leave immediately after watching a single video. The users weren’t utilizing everything they had to offer. They needed to find a solution to this problem. They needed to have an awesome user eXperience.
How do you connect the thousands of people attending conferences to the tens of thousands who wanted to eXperience them? Could you recreate that unique feeling of attending a conference in person in the digital realm?
SiliconANGLE gave us a tight timeframe. As the conferences are going on all year long they needed the work done right away. We had no time to waste. They gave us a 5 week time for completion.
We are used to working under deadlines so we had a plan. We would use rapid sketching to analyze the problem from every possible angle for the user. This removes unseen issues before we get to digital development. In this way, we are able to optimize our time before we get to visual development. We didn’t just want a plan B, we needed a plan D to make our deadline.
We needed to create an eXperience that matched the real world that for attending conferences. In this way we could make the users stay longer. So we had to identify the stages that make up the journey of attending a conference. We broke it down to three.
The first stage is before the conference. There is always the buzz, the talking about last year, and commenting on any late breaking changes. The second stage is the event itself. There is more than simply listening to speakers. There is the interaction with the attendees, the crowd reactions, and the talk in between speakers. And the final stage is after the conference. People share their opinions on the speakers, their reactions, and more.
Using these three stages we set out to create a comprehensive digital eXperience that mirrored the real world. A simple way to do this would be to just add a bunch of features to the page. But that's not what we do and we knew that this wouldn’t achieve the outcome we needed. We needed to create an eXperience. So we iterated, iterated, and iterated some more until that is what we accomplished.
Changing the possible
We had delivered to SiliconANGLE an eXperience that matched the special feeling of attending a conference in person. The communication, the education, and even the camaraderie were part of the eXperience with our new design. And their users could have it anywhere, at a convenient time, and have it across device platforms. We had changed what was possible for their users, making it more desirable to stay longer and interact more when engaging.
